Renowned agro-economist Sharad Joshi passes away
Renowned agro-economist Sharad Anantrao Joshi passed away in Pune, Maharashtra at the age of 81. He was founder of Shetakari Sanghtana (farmers’ Organisation), an NGO dedicated to the cause of farmers in Maharashtra.

Union Govt signed MoU for establishing IIITs at Ranchi, Nagpur & Pune
The Union Government has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing three Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country. The agreement to this effect was signed between Department of Higher Education (DoHE) and private agencies including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Motors, ADCC Infocad and Hubtown.


NGT bans registration of new diesel-run vehicles in Delhi
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered ban on registration of new diesel-run vehicles in Delhi to curb the growing menace of air pollution in the capital city. This ruling was given by NGT bench headed by Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar and also questioned Delhi government’s odd-even formula for vehicles to check pollution in the city.

UNESCO designated Jaipur and Varanasi as members of Creative Cities Network
Two Indian cities Jaipur and Varanasi for first time have been designated as members of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN) and It was announced by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova announced the designation from 33 countries 47 cities as new members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Mobile app to help choose energy efficient appliances
Power Minister Piyush Goyal will aunch a mobile app, on the occasion of the National Energy Conservation Day, to help consumers compare and choose energy efficient appliances available in the market. The mobile application will allow consumers to instantly compare personalised energy savings across all products of a specific class and thus enable them to choose more efficient products available in the market.

Logo and Mascot of 11th SAF games launched in Guwahati
The Organising Committee of the 12th South Asian Games, 2016 (OC-SAG) has unveiled the logo and mascot of the Games in Guwahati, Assam. The North Eastern cities of Guwahati and Shillong would jointly host the Games from February 6-16, 2016.
