World’s first biologically powered chip created
Researchers at Columbia Engineering have harnessed the molecular machinery of living systems to power an integrated circuit. They achieved this by integrating a conventional solid-state complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit with an artificial lipid bilayer membrane containing adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-powered ion pumps.

British astronaut will attempt to run the London Marathon in space
The British astronaut Tim Peake will attempt to run the London Marathon in space. On 24 April 2016, he will run 26.2 miles on a treadmill aboard the International Space Station (ISS), the same day as more than 30,000 runners will take part in the London Marathon. He will be only the second Briton in space after Helen Sharman in 1991. He will be the first Briton on board the ISS. Earlier, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams ran the Boston Marathon on board the ISS in 2007.

GAIL launched geo-portal Bhuvan-GAIL Portal
GAIL (India) Limited in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre, a unit of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), has launched a surveillance geo-portal – ‘Bhuvan-GAIL Portal’. The portal will utilise space technology to monitor GAIL pipelines. GAIL (India) Ltd. is presently monitoring its 13,000 km of pipeline network via helicopter surveys. It is also planning alternative methods such as advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to monitor pipelines.

Himachal Pradesh launched Rotavirus vaccination project
Himachal Pradesh has become the first Indian state to launch Rotavirus vaccination project. This vaccination programme will help to control the child mortality rate (under 5 years of age) due to diarrhoea. The rotavirus vaccines are administered orally to infants in three dose course at ages of 6, 10 and 14 weeks and are part of Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP). The project was launched in Kangra district. It will soon be launched in Vellore (Tamil Nadu) and Pune (Maharashtra).

Government introduced Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill, 2015
Union Government has introduced Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill, 2015 to facilitate and fast track setting up of new nuclear projects in the country. Bill was introduced by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Atomic Energy and Space Dr Jitendra Singh. It will be amendment to the Atomic Energy Act, 1962.

India's Astrosat has beaten NASA: TIFR
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research’s scientists have opined that Astrosat’s (first space observatory of India) Large Area Xenon Proportional Counters (LAXPC) has been successful in generation of good data, which when compared with the other similar instruments is better by a factor of 5.

LAXPC instrument created by TIFR Professor JS Yadav, is best suited for explorations of extreme condition and it has scored better than NASA’s similar mission known as Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer /Proportional Counter Array (RXTE/PCA).
Three units of Astrosat’s LAXPC are located over an area of 8,000 cm square and have aggregate mass of 414 kg.

India International Science Festival 2015
The first ever India International Science Festival (IISF) was inaugurated by Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan at IIT Delhi. Around 3,000 young scientists are going to participate in India International Science Festival 2015, which will feature National Level Exhibition & Project Competition (NLEPC), Science Film Festival, Techno-Industrial Expo and Young Scientists' Conference.
