National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) have cloned a female calf using cells (somatic cells )from the buffalo's urine. This is probably first case in the world across the species, in which somatic cells has been isolated from urine and cloned calf has been produced.

It is the tenth cloned calf in the NDRI, since the institute produced world's first cloned buffalo calf in 2009.

Narayan Desai recieved many awards including Jamnalal Bajaj Award in 1999, UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize and Moortidevi Award In 2004, Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993 for his book on biography of his father Mahadev Desai and Ranjitram Suwarna Chandrak.
