Nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I ballistic missile test fired
- Indigenously developed nuclear capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-I was successfully test-fired off the Odisha coast.
- It was conducted as part of training exercise by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of Indian Army.
- The missile was fired from mobile launcher at launchpad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island) off the Odisha coast.
- Developed by: Advanced Systems Laboratory, the premier missile development laboratory of DRDO in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory, Research Centre Imarat and was integrated by Hyderabad based Bharat Dynamics Limited.
- About Agni-I:
- Missile Agni-I is the first missile of the Agni series launched in 1983 by the DRDO as part of Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) in India.
India collaborates with Japan on Andamans project
- The first project being discussed is a modest one — a 15-megawatt diesel power plant on South Andaman Island
- It is also testimony to the unfolding relationship between India and Japan which is also funding a $744 million road building project in the northeastern Indian border regions of Mizoram, Assam and Meghalaya
- Like the Andaman and Nicobar chain, the northeastern region is a strategic area that has remained relatively undeveloped because of its separation from the mainland
SEBI bans wilful defaulters from tapping capital market for funds
- The capital and commodity market regulator has decided that if a listed entity or its promoter has been declared a wilful defaulter, it will not be allowed to make a public issue of equity shares, debt or any other convertible securities
- The SEBI has also decided that a wilful defaulter will not be allowed to acquire any other listed company, and the guidelines for determining ‘fit and proper person’ will also be amended to keep such wilful defaulters out of its ambit.
China to set up International Maritime Judicial Center
- China’s Supreme Court has chosen to set up its own International Maritime Judicial Center (IMJC) to handle regional question and ensure its ocean rights. It was declared by China’s Supreme Court Chief Justice Zhou Qiang at the yearly meeting of the national council National People’s Congress (NPC).
- This move will help China to reinforce its cases in the questioned South and East China oceans furthermore offer it some assistance with becoming a sea power.
Palestinian Hanan Al Hroub wins 2016 Global Teacher Prize
- Palestinian instructor Hanan Al Hroub from an exile camp has been recompensed prestigious one million dollar 2016 Global Teacher Prize.
- She was given the honor at a function held in Dubai for her remarkable commitment to the calling. She beat nine different finalists to pack the grant including India’s Robin Chaurasiya, who runs a not-revenue driven school in Mumbai for young ladies from the city’s seedy area of town of Kamatipura.
Lin Dan wins 2016 All England Badminton title
- Lin Dan from China has won the prestigious 2016 All England Badminton title in the men’s singles classification. In the last match played at Birmingham, England he vanquished Chinese buddy Tian Houwei by 21-9, 21-10 score.
- It was his general 6th All England badminton title and prior he had won it in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012.
