Bill Gates is again the richest person on earth, with a net worth of $87 billion
>> Gates' net worth today sits at $87.4 billion, according to new Wealth-X data on the world's 50 richest people. That makes Gates more than $20 billion richer than runner-up Amancio Ortega, the man behind Spanish fashion behemoth Zara.

Polygamy made mandatory in Eritrea
>> Eritrea has issued a law that makes it mandatory for men of the nation to marry at least two wives. Failing to adhere by the orders will lead to life imprisonment with hard labour.
>> The law also says that women who attempt to prevent their husbands from exercising the law would spend the rest of their lives in jail.
Reason: The order was passed in lieu of the country facing a shortage of male population caused due to the civil war with Ethiopia. In order to bridge this shortage, the law also intends to cover the necessary wedding and accommodation expenses.
Other African Countries with legalized Polygamy: Polygamy was legalised by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2014, with no limit on the number of wives that a man can marry.
Other African countries where polygamy remains illegal: Ghana, Ethiopia, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Angola, Tunisia, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Raghuram Rajan joins World Economic Forum task force to study global financial system
>> Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan has joined a task force of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to study the future of global financial system, whose members include bankers and policymakers from across the world.

Iran and Airbus signed deal to buy 118 Airbus planes
>> Iran and Airbus on 28 January 2016 signed two agreements covering new aircraft orders and a comprehensive civil aviation co-operation package. The agreement includes purchase of 118 new Airbus aircrafts

Union Government formed expert panel to review Specific Relief Act, 1963
>> The Legislative Department in the Ministry of Law & Justice on 28 January 2016 constituted an expert committee to review the Specific Relief Act, 1963. The committee will have five members besides the Chairman.
>> The committee has been asked to submit its report within three months.
>> The Specific Relief Act, 1963 provides for the law relating to certain kind of specific relief and has not been amended since its inception.

Shooter Heena Sidhu qualifies for Rio Olympics
>> Joint world record holder Heena Sidhu won gold in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event on the opening day of the Asian qualifiers at the Karni Singh Shooting Range and qualified for the Rio Olympics.

>> In the finals, she finished with 199.4 to beat Chinese Tapiei’s Tien Chia Chen (198.1) who took the silver. Yun Mi Gim of South Korea got the bronze.
