AHS Students at AIIMS Rishikesh Protest for Fair Policies and Justice
Students of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh took a stand for their rights on November 28 and 29, organizing peaceful protests to address pressing issues regarding stipends, internships, and registration procedures.
Clad in their white coats, the students carried signs with powerful messages such as “Recognize Our Efforts, Reward Our Labour,” “Work Deserves Worth,” and “Intern By Will, Not By Force.” They also raised slogans like “No Stipend, No Work” and “Justice for AHS,” amplifying their call for justice.
The Core Demands
The protesting students have highlighted three key demands:
1. Fair Stipends: They assert that their contributions to the institution deserve recognition and adequate financial compensation. The lack of stipends, they argue, impacts their financial stability and morale.
2. Optional Internships: The students believe internships should not be mandatory. This flexibility would allow them to pursue other career opportunities, including government jobs and higher studies, without unnecessary constraints.
3. Transparent Registration Process: Protesters are calling for clear and written guidelines to resolve issues related to student registration, reducing unnecessary confusion and delays.
The Impact of the Issues
Students emphasized that the absence of stipends has created significant financial strain, leaving many feeling undervalued despite their hard work. “We contribute to the institution in meaningful ways. Fair compensation is not just a demand; it’s our right,” shared one of the protestors.
Additionally, the mandatory nature of internships was criticized for limiting students’ ability to explore vital career paths. Protesters also pointed out that a lack of clarity in registration procedures adds to their challenges, highlighting the need for better administrative support.
A Call for Dialogue
In a letter addressed to the AIIMS Rishikesh administration, the students reiterated their commitment to peaceful demonstrations while urging the authorities to engage in constructive dialogue. They stressed the importance of resolving these grievances promptly to ensure a better future for all AHS students.
“We are hopeful that the administration will take our concerns seriously and work with us to find a solution,” the letter stated.
This protest serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and valuing the contributions of Allied Health Sciences students. Their voices, now united, are a powerful call for justice and reform.
