Government decides to merge Overseas Indians Ministry with MEA
- Government has decided to merge the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) with the External Affairs Ministry (MEA)
- The Government is stick to its principle of minimum government, maximum governance.
- The proposal for merger was cleared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mohammad Sayeed passes away
- Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away at the AIIMS hospital in New Delhi due to multi organ failure at the age of 79.
- He was the first Muslim Minister for Home Affairs in India's Union Cabinet in 1989. He was a member of the National Congress Party, which he quit to join V. P. Singh's Jan Morcha and later rejoined NCP under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He finally quit the Congress in 1999 along with daughter Mehbooba Mufti to form his own party Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (JKPDP).
- Sayeed was twice elected as the Chief Minister of the state.
Mehbooba Mufti all set to be first woman CM of J&K
- In Jammu & Kashmir, the ruling PDP President & MP Mehbooba Mufti is expected to become new Chief Minister of the State following demise of her father & former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
- PDP has unanimously decided to support her for the post of Chief Minister.
- The coalition partner BJP said it will go with PDP’s choice on Chief Minister’s post.
Government will launch new software for E-connectivity of

- The Government will launch new software to enable E-connectivity of Agricultural markets in the country.
- Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said, the new software will break the virtual and connectivity barriers of Agricultural Markets and will benefit farmers in getting fair prices.
India and France started a joint counter terrorism and counter
insurgency exercise “Shakti – 2016
- India and France are undertaking a joint counter terrorism and counter insurgency exercise “Shakti - 2016” from today at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.
- The joint exercise involve 56 personnel of the 35th Infantry Regiment of 7th Armoured Brigade of France and Second Battalion of Garhwal Rifles of the Sapta Shakti Command will participate.
Centre approves reservation for women in paramilitary forces
- Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh approved 33% reservation of Constable-level posts for women in order to enhance their representation. The 33% reservation of Constable-level posts in CRPF & CISF and 14-15% posts at Constable-level in Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal and Indo Tibetan Border Police, will be effected immediately.
- This decision was taken after the Committee on Empowerment of Women had recommended the need to give women due representation in paramilitary forces.

- Actor and MP Shatrughan Sinha has published his biography titled Anything but Khamosh.
- Sinha's autobiography was authored by Bharti S Pradhan on the basis of personal interviews.
Dr Achyuta Samanta has been elected as President of Indian
Science Congress for 2017-18.
- As the 103rd Indian Science Congress is coming to an end in Mysuru, Dr Samanta has been elected as the general president for the 105th Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) scheduled for 2017-18.
- Dr Samanta, who is a well-known educationist for setting up renowned institutions like KIIT University and KISS, is currently serving as a member of ISCA's executive committee.

FinMin wants 30% dividend from PSUs
- Government is looking at central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) to help it tide through a difficult financial situation.
- The Finance Ministry has spelt out a fresh policy for dividend payments by CPSEs, directing them to pay 30 per cent of the profit after tax or 30 per cent of the Government of India equity, whichever is higher.
