Railways institutes directorate to ramp up non-tariff revenue
- The Ministry of Railway has set up a new cross functional directorate within the Railway Board to enhance revenue from non tariff sources by 10-20%.
- Advertisements at stations, commercial exploitation of vacant land and space rights over station buildings, including station redevelopment, advertisements on coaches and locos, sponsorship of uniforms for railway personnel, hoardings on land alongside tracks, commercial farming along tracks, monetisation of soft assets, including revenue from advertisements on websites and parking of vehicles on railway land will be carried out by the Non-Fare box Revenue (NFR) directorate to raise revenue.
- NFR will also sponsor railway personnel uniforms, monetisation of soft assets and parking vehicles on railway land.
Memorandum of Cooperation to be signed between Ministry of Women & Child Development and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved Memorandum of Co-operation (MoC) between Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD) and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
- In accordance with the cooperation in Information and Communication Technology enabled Real Time Monitoring (ICT-RTM) of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). It also deals with other technical matter.
DRDO and Ayush join hands to impart yoga training to Defence Wing Staff
Delhi based DRDO’s laboratory Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS) DRDO in collaboration with Department of AYUSH organised a training program on Yoga for the Defence Wing Staff.
- Earlier the DRDO’s lab has imparted training to about 8000 Army and Paramilitary personnel deployed at various locations.
Cabinet approves currency swap deal with UAE

Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Central Bank of United Arab Emirates (UAE) on co-operation concerning currency swap agreement. The MoU inked in February, this year.
- The MoU will strengthen the close economic relationship and cooperation between the sides.
- Under this approval India and the UAE will be a step closer to bilateral currency swap on mutually agreed terms and conditions.
- The agreement is to be expected to facilitate invoicing of bilateral business in local currencies.
Reliance Power to setup plant in Bangladesh

Reliance power is all set to setup a 3,000 MW LNG-based power plant in Bangladesh as its Government of has granted in-principle approval for the first phase of Reliance Power’s project in the country.
- The first Phase of 750MW gas-based power plant established at Meghnaghat near Dhaka, along with a floating storage of 2 million tonnes and regasification unit (FSRU) at Moheshkhali Island in Bangladesh.
Kamban Vizha festival begins
- Kamban Vizha festival has started today to commemorate the legendary Tamil poet from Chola period. This festival is organised by Kamban Kazhagam.
- Poet Kamban composed the Kamba Ramayanam, which is the Tamil representation of the Ramayana. It was first recited at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam.
- Kamban, who was from Tanjavur, was hailed as 'Kavi Chakravarthi' (emperor of poets). He was patron poet of Vallal Sadaiyappar Mudaliar, a wealthy 12th-century velir (chief) who had his residence at both Puduvai (Puducherry) and Thiruvenainallur in India.
Indian professor wins Commonwealth short story regional prize

India Author Prashar Kulkarni has won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize – 2016, for the Asia region for his politically grounded fiction Cow and Company.
- The author is set to compete for the 5000 pounds grand prize to be announced at the Calabash International Literary Festival in Jamaica later this year.
Turkish PM Davutoglu to step down
- Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkish Prime minister has recently announced his abdication as a ruling party chief premier.
- The resignation will help Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to strengthen his position in the party as well as in the government.
