Sunil Lanba to be next Navy Chief
Vice-Admiral Sunil Lanba, currently the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command has been appointed the next Chief of Naval Staff.
Vice Admiral Lanba, 58, is a qualified specialist in navigation and direction course and will have a full three-year-term in office till May 31, 2019.
Vice Admiral Lanba is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal and the Athi Vishist Seva Medal for distinguished service of an exceptionally high order.
A Maize Technology Park will come up at Ranebennur in Haveri district
The Karnataka State government has decided to go ahead with the establishment of Asia’s first Rice Technology Park at Gangavati in Koppal district and a Maize Technology Park at Ranebennur in Haveri district on the public-private participation model as a one-stop solution to all problems of rice and maize growers.
India to hold festival in Egypt to mark Tagore’s birth anniversary
To mark the 155th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, India will organize a cultural festival in Egypt next week.
The festival will be host from 8 May to 12th May by the Embassy of India in Cairo and Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture.
Vjiay Mallya Expelled from Rajya Sabha MP, Resignation Accepted
Vijay Mallya, who has refused to return from the UK to face banks over unpaid loans, has been allowed to resign from Parliament.
Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Hamid Ansari, has accepted Mr. Mallya’s resignation sent, Parliament was informed.
Earlier, the Ethics Committee of the Rajya Sabha had recommended that the fugitive tycoon should be expelled with immediate effect, rather than being allowed to quit.
Piyush Goyal to unveil portal on payment to contract workers
Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal will introduce a new portal for Contract Labour Payment Management System.
He will also felicitate employees for their path-breaking work towards lighting up India in the last two years.
The Web portal is created for monitoring compliance of labour payment and other benefits to contract workers under the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970.
The Central Mine Planning and Development Institute (CMPDI), the consultancy arm of CIL, will maintain the portal.

Domestic gas users in major cities need income proof for subsidy claim
Consumers in Tier-I and II cities will have to submit affidavits to their LPG distributors stating that their annual income is below Rs.10 lakh to continue to receive cooking gas subsidy.
