Transactions above Rs. 2 lakh need PAN from January 1

Finance ministry made it mandatory to furnish permanent account number (PAN) for all transactions above Rs 2 lakh through all payment modes with effect from January 1, 2016. It will help to curtail domestic black money flow.

Saudi Arabia reopens its embassy in Iraq after 25 years
Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in Iraq, after 25 years, after Riyadh broke off diplomatic relations with Baghdad following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The staff of the Saudi embassy arrived on Dec 15 in Baghdad.

SC bans diesel vehicles above 2000 CC engine upto 31st March
The Supreme Court has banned the registration of new diesel running luxury cars and SUVs with an engine capacity of over 2000 cc until March 31. Any commercial vehicle not bound for Delhi will no longer be allowed to enter the city through entry points at National Highway 1 and 8 while all taxis and cab services — Ola, Uber or otherwise — will have to shift to CNG by March 31.

Japan’s SoftBank wins first solar project in India
Japan’s Soft Bank won its first solar power project in India. The Japanese firm won the 350 megawatt (Mw) project, under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (NSM), through its joint venture (JV) company SBG Cleantech.

India celebrated 'Vijay Diwas on December 16th
India celebrated 'Vijay Diwas' to mark India's victory over Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. The day is also celebrated to honour the martyrs of the 1971 war between the two countries.

India ranks 130th in 2015 Human Development Index
In the recently published Human Development Report 2015, it was unveiled that India has been placed at 130th position in the 2015 Human Development Index (HDI) among the 188 countries. The report was released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The HDI was created to emphasize that people and their capabilities should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth alone.

Pakistan successfully tested the nuclear-capable Shaheen-IA ballistic missile
Pakistan has successfully tested the nuclear-capable Shaheen-IA ballistic missile with a range of 900 km. The test of the missile was aimed at re-validating several design and technical parameters of the weapon system. However the location of the test was not disclosed by Pakistan Government.

Apurvi Chandela won Gold medal in National Shooting Championship
Apurvi Chandela from Rajasthan has won a Gold medal in the 59th National Shooting Championship in Delhi. She won the gold medal in 10-metre Air Rifle event in women’s category by shooting 207.8 score in the finals.
