Zika virus creates panic in Latin America
Mosquito-borne Zika virus has created a panic over thousands birth defects in the Latin America countries. New case of child born with the virus has been reported in these countries. However, Brazil is experiencing the largest known outbreak of Zika with most cases in the north-east region.

Google, Railtel launches free public Wi-Fi service at Mumbai Central Station
Google India and Indian Railways’ telecom arm RailTel has launched free Rail Wire Public Wi-Fi service for railway passengers at the Mumbai Central Station. Scientists discovered a new bird species, Himalayan Forest Thrush
Scientists have discovered a new bird species named Himalayan Forest Thrush in northeastern India and adjacent parts of China. It has been given scientific name Zoothera salimalii after ornithologist and naturalist Salim Ali who has made significant contributions to ornithology in India.

Anti-tank missile “Nag” successful test fired
After the multipurpose exercises carried out for improving the system, the indigenously-built third generation anti-tank missile, Nag successfully hit the target 4 km away during a night trial in the Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan. Thermal Target System (TTS) developed by a defence laboratory at Jodhpur was used as target for the missile, which is in the final user configuration.

ISRO successfully launches IRNSS-1E satellite

Union Government launches River Information System
India’s first River Information System (RIS) was launched by Union Government facilitate safe and accurate inland waterway navigation. It has been launched in phases and the first phase will cover 145-km stretch of National Waterways 1 (Phase I- Haldia to Farakka) on the Ganges River. Inland Waterway Authority of India (IWAI), a statutory body under the aegis of Union Ministry of Shipping is implementing the RIS in India.
