👉International Youth Day (IYD) is observed on 12 August. The aim of this day is to create awareness regarding the problems and challenges faced by the youth.

This day celebrates the role of young women and men as essential partners in change across the world.

Theme for this year: The 2020 Theme for IYD is "Youth Engagement for Global Action."

 

👉World Elephant Day is observed on 12 August. This is celebrated as international annual event to create awareness about preserving and protecting the elephant across the world.

The Day recognize importance to protect the intelligent and huge animal from extinction.


👉Israel has shared its artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies and high-end equipment with AIIMS, Delhi.  This is a part of India-Israel cooperation fight against COVID-19.


These high end technologies include AI video-oriented and voice operated autonomous personal robot and mobile applications that can be installed on any mobile phones of COVID-19 staff.


👉Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched Indira Van Mitan Yojana on the occasion of World Tribal Day. The aim of this scheme is to make the forest dwellers in the state self-reliant.


Under the Indira Van Mitan Yojana, youth groups will be formed in 10,000 villages of tribal area of the state. All forest-based economic activities will be conducted through these groups.


👉The Aerospace Start up Skyroot Aerospace has test fired an upper stage rocket engine.


by this way it has become the first Indian private company to demonstrate the capability of homegrown rocket engine.


👉Kamala Harris to run for Vice President Post in US. The US elections are due for the year 2020. While President Donald Trump has one more term to run for US elections, he been challenged by the opponent Joe Biden. Joe Biden was the Vice President of the US during President Obama’s period.


The Presidential Candidate Joe Biden has chosen Kamala Harris to run for Vice President.


She will be the first black woman and the first person of Indian origin to be nominated for the national office of a majority party in the US.


👉On August 11, 2020, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra of Supreme Court ruled that daughters have equal rights as that of sons on parental property.

International Affairs:
The India-Maldives MoU on Training and Capacity Building Programme for Maldivian civil services officers training has been made operationalized in the ceremony held at the Civil Services Commission of Maldives at Male.

Pakistan Prime Minister Office got a 3-year extension of General Qamar Javed Bajwa‘s tenure as Chief of Army Staff. Bajwa’s original term to end in November 2019.

Sri Lankan field commander appointed the new Army Commander, the President’s office announced.Lt Gen Shavendra Silva, 55 take charge as incumbent Army chief Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake’s service.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to pay a 3-day visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. The visit aims to hold extensive talks with top leaders of the two countries on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The 5th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission is to take place from August 21 to 22, 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S.Jaishankar is to participate in the meeting.

Indian Affairs:
Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated on 20 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This year will be the 75th Birth Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

The eminent composer Mohammed Zahur Hashmi passed away on 19 August. He was 92 years old. He died because of prolonged illnesses.

Economy:
State Bank of India bank debit cards from the banking system as the bank plans to promote more digital payment solutions and eliminate the plastic cards.


Science& Technology:
Indian’s first-ever mission aimed for a soft landing on the Moon’s south polar region, Chandrayaan-2, was inserted into Moon’s orbit on 20 August. The entry was confirmed by the Indian Space Agency, ISRO.

The Indian railways enabled free Wi-Fi at its 3000th station. The facility went live at Rajasthan’s Ellenabad on Monday, with 1,000 stations connected.

India is the largest emitter of anthropogenic sulphur dioxide in the world as per the data released by environmental NGO Greenpeace 2019.

K Thangaraj, chief scientist at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology(CCMB), Hyderabad, Telangana, won this year’s J C Bose Fellowship.

Nepal to hold SAARC Foreign Ministers informal meeting

Nepal plans to hold SAARC Foreign Ministers informal meeting on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly (UNGA) session in September 2019. The aim is to prove the country's role in creating an environment for the commencement of the regional summit.


India and SAARC summit:

The 18th SAARC summit was held in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2014. India is the largest member of SAARC forum. The 19th SAARC summit was supposed to held in 2016. But the summit was canceled after India boycotted the meeting. India protested after the terror attack at the military base in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on September 2016. The attack killed 19 soldiers. After India boycotted the SAARC summit countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan walked out. India's decision is to set up diplomatic pressure on Pakistan. India also declared that it will participate only if Pakistan took steps to tackle terrorism.
